PLEASE NOTE: This year’s Maine Hello will look very different due to COVID-19. We will be moving students in over the course of a week (August 24-29).

Please visit www.umaine.edu/reslife to see what day you will be moving in based on your residence hall and room number.

You will be getting a letter in the mail that tells you what time to move in! If you do not receive a letter by Friday, 8/14, please email maine.hello@maine.edu and we will help you!

The Tradition

Back in the in the days of President Arthur Hauck (1934-1958), the original Maine Hello was initiated as a part of orientation. In those days, for the first few weeks of school first-year students wore beanies and greeted all upperclassmen with a warm and friendly “Hello”.

Today’s Maine Hello

Today, the Maine Hello is a campus-wide event wherein returning students, faculty and staff members from across the university volunteer to welcome new students and their families as they arrive on campus. Volunteers assist with greeting families, answering questions, directing traffic, and helping first-year students move their belongings into their residence halls room. Every year over 700 members of the campus community participate in the Maine Hello!
