Rose Garden at the corner Belgrade and Sebago roads, across from Collins Center for the Arts
Tucked within one of UMaine’s many small gardens are bronze castings of three young children: a girl with an intense gaze is standing and holding a teddy bear; a boy sits nearby on the ground and looks at a book, while an active younger child on a nearby rock is in mid-movement on a nearby rock. The concept of the rose garden goes back to the early 1990s. The sculptures, a garden highlight, are a 2005 gift (see plaque in garden) from an alumnus (’57) and his wife, whose grandchildren are represented by the sculptures. Much of UMaine’s art is the result of alumni generosity.
