Artist: Vivian Beer, New Hampshire

Vivian Beer, a native of Bar Harbor, is known for her metal work and contemporary designs. This particular stainless steel sculpture is referred to by the artist as a “bench” and is designed to hold a seated person. A project of the State of Maine Percent for Art Program, Matter Wave was the choice of art related to the 2015 laboratory renovations of Aubert Hall. The University’s Office of Facilities Management designed and installed the charcoal tinted concrete base. Among the venues for Beer’s work are Boston’s Museum of Fine Arts, the Smithsonian American Art Museum, and Winslow Park in Portland, Maine.
