The 1998 Civil Engineering Steel Sculpture is included on the Steel Sculpture List kept by the American Institute of Steel Construction. It is described as “a standard design that illustrates a wide variety of structural connections.” Students, under faculty supervision, made the reinforced concrete base that the sculpture rests on. Additionally, Maine-based companies were involved: One fabricated the piece; another donated the concrete; and a third provided the crane to lift the pieces into place. A list of contributing companies is on a plaque affixed to the sculpture.
