Map and directions

King Memorial Plaza, adjacent to the Memorial Union, was dedicated in 2008. It is a space that is a testament to UMaine’s opposition to injustice, a location to recognize the Kings’ civil rights leadership, and a setting for contemplation and interaction. Quotations from Dr. and Mrs. King can be found throughout the plaza: Look for them on the brick wall, on panels located on the wall and on individual granite plinths. Stone seat-walls, some straight and some slightly curved, are surrounded by a rich array of grasses, trees, shrubs and groundcover that help define the area. The plaza also serves as a popular pedestrian thoroughfare.
