Advancing GIScience Institute in Bar Harbor in June

Twenty years ago, the first International Early-Career Scholars Summer Institutes in Geographic Information was hosted by NCGIA here in Maine. A follow-on meeting was held in Berlin Germany the next year. These institutes were funded at the time by NSF and the European Science Foundation (ESF). To mark the anniversary, participants in those first two institutes will be gathering to join with a new group of early career scholars to explore the theme of Advancing Geographic Information Science: The Past and Next Twenty Years. Our Spatial Informatics faculty in SCIS are the major organizers for the conference.

Because these early conferences served as the model for the successful Vespucci institutes series, this Institute is also being sponsored by the Vespucci Initiative. Check out the Week 1 Vespucci Institute as well that will also be held in Bar Harbor.
Current senior graduate students and PhD graduates within the past five years are invited to submit a full paper or extended abstract to be considered for attendance at the conference at the end of June in Bar Harbor. The deadline of March 15 is fast approaching.
