KEYNOTE SPEAKER
STRANDS
Strand One: Mathematics/STEM Education
Strand Two: Social-Emotional Learning and Teacher Wellness
Justin Dimmel
Strand Leader
How did plane geometry help classical mariners solve geolocation problems? How can sunlight be used as a resource for doing mathematical work? How are emerging technologies for displaying and interacting with information in space creating new opportunities for learning and teaching mathematics? These are some of the topics to be explored in the mathematics/STEM strand. Through a mixture of presentations, demonstrations, workshops, and design sessions, participants can explore exciting frontiers in learning and teaching mathematics.
Jim Artesani
Strand Leader
This strand focuses on conceptualizing and applying systems-oriented approaches to support students’ and teachers’ social, emotional, behavioral growth, and well-being in educational settings. It will emphasize developing prosocial behaviors and self-regulation skills, including those proven to facilitate social relationships, serve as academic enablers, and promote self-determination. The social-ecological framework will provide the primary theoretical and conceptual roots for our learning, with strong links to relevant contextual factors (e.g., home, community, SES, and the broader domain of DEIB) in Maine.
