Maine Research Symposium on Biomedical Science and Engineering rescheduled for Wednesday & Thursday, March 27 & 28, 2024
The second Maine Research Symposium on Biomedical Science and Engineering that was originally scheduled for October 26 & 27, 2023 was rescheduled to Wednesday and Thursday, March 27 and 28, in Wells Conference Center, Barrows Hall – Hill Auditorium, and the Hudson Museum on the University of Maine campus. On Wednesday, March 27, the symposium resumed with lectures about oncology, translational medicine, a panel discussion on workforce development (Wells – Room 2) and microscopy, cell signaling, kidneys, and pathogens (Wells – Room 1).
On Thursday, March 28, lectures were held on AI applications in medicine, engineering approaches, cellular mechanisms associated with disease states, and age-related disease states, as well as lectures on clinical research, rural/public health, with the Maine Rural Graduate Medical Education (MERGE) Collaborative holding their first Rural GME Conference.
The organizing committee included the Institute of Medicine, the Jackson Laboratory (JAX), MDI Biological Laboratory, MaineHealth, Northern Light Health, the University of New England, the University of Southern Maine, the Roux Institute at Northeastern University and the MERGE Collaborative.

The MERGE Collaborative will host its first Rural Graduate Medical Education (GME) Thursday, March 28, 2024!
The ME Rural GME Education (MERGE) Collaborative is part of a state-funded initiative to build a healthcare workforce and infrastructure for rural Maine. As a partnership among Maine’s four ACGME sponsoring institutions, the MERGE Collaborative aims to promote, standardize, and optimize rural elective rotations for graduate medical education resident physicians. As part of the Maine Biomedical Research Symposium, the MERGE Collaborative hosted its first Rural GME Conference on March 28th in the Wells Conference Center at the University of Maine – Orono. Sessions included topics on teaching techniques for graduate medical education, rural workforce pressures in Maine, DEI in rural spaces, and more.

18th Annual University of Maine Clinical Geriatrics Colloquium Resources Available
The Eighteenth Annual University of Maine Clinical Geriatrics Colloquium was a hybrid event this year (both in-person and Zoom online webinar). It took place on Wednesday, October 25th on the University of Maine Orono campus, with the theme of Sexual Health and Aging.

Maine Integrated Behavioral Health Summit - Friday, March 29 from 8 - 2pm
The Maine Integrated Behavioral Health Summit was held Friday, March 29 at Wells Conference Center on the University of Maine, Orono campus. This event was presented by the University of Maine’s Rural Integrated Behavioral Health in Primary Care (RIBHPC) program with support from the Maine Primary Care Association, Northern Light Acadia Hospital, Northern Light Mercy Primary Care, Penobscot Community Health Center, Maine Dartmouth Medicine Residency, and the University of Maine’s School of Social Work, School of Nursing, and Doctoral Program in Clinical Psychology.
