Guardian cites Allan, Kerschner hazing studies

The Guardian cited a study of hazing in NCAA Division III college athletics by University of Maine researchers David Kerschner and Elizabeth Allan in a story about hazing during and after the COVID-19 pandemic. Allan is a professor of higher education at UMaine; Kerschner earned his doctorate in higher education in 2021. Their survey of five Division III institutions found that 40.9% of athletes experienced hazing compared to 24.8% of non-athletes. “Athletes were statistically significantly more likely to experience harassment hazing than their peers in fraternities and sororities and other group organisations,” Kerschner told the Guardian. The article also cited a 2008 hazing study by Allan and former UMaine education faculty Mary Madden.
