Three Two-year Assistant Professorships

The Department of Mathematics and Statistics at the University of Maine invites applications for up to three fixed-length term, non-tenure track academic year appointments as Assistant Professors, effective September 1, 2014. These positions are for two years. Exceptionally well-qualified candidates from all areas of mathematics, statistics, mathematics education and other related fields are encouraged to apply. Preference will be given to candidates whose research is in an area in which the department is presently active; please address this in your cover letter.

A Ph.D. is required by date of hire. Demonstrated effective teaching and strong potential for research are also required, as are excellent written and oral communication skills. Responsibilities include undergraduate and graduate teaching, advising of students, and maintaining an active research program. The normal teaching load for this position is either two 4-credit courses each semester, or two 4-credit courses in one semester and three 3-credit courses in the other semester, depending on the department’s needs and the individual’s interests.
