The town of Oxford was incorporated in 1829 and reached its current form in 1838 after annexing land from several neighboring towns. A branch of the Grand Trunk Railroad passed through Oxford starting in the mid-1800s, supporting Oxford’s business and industry during its century of operations. Oxford’s busy central stretch is known for the Oxford Hills Casino, the Oxford Speedway, abundant antique shopping, and a number of modular home builders, while its forested and agricultural hinterland retains its rustic charm.
