Red Resident permit Resident Permits

  • Resident permits are restricted to eligible students residing in campus housing.
  • Permits are limited by availability. 
  • These permits are valid in designated Resident parking areas only (Red lots)
  • Vehicles with resident permits parked in areas designated for other permit categories are subject to enforcement procedures.
  • Permits are sold by the year at a cost of $50 per year. One permit is allowed per person. Permits expire on 8/31 of each year.
  • After-midnight parking for guests of residents’ limits parking to designated overnight lots: College Ave South, and the black section of Bridge Tennis Courts. See the Winter Parking Ban for more information. Guests are required to have visitor permit. See the visitor permit page for more information.
  •  After-midnight parking for Resident permit holders during the Winter Parking Ban does not change and should remain in a Red resident designated lot.

Black Commuter or Visitor permitCommuter Permit

  • Commuter Permits are restricted to University of Maine commuter students utilizing off-campus housing.
  • These permits are valid in designated Commuter parking areas only (Black lots).
  • Vehicles with commuter permits parked in areas designated for other permit categories are subject to enforcement procedures.
  • Permits are sold by the year at a cost of $50 per year. One permit is allowed per person. Permits expire on 8/31 of each year.
  • After-midnight parking for Commuter permit holders during the Winter Parking Ban limits parking to designated overnight parking lots: College Ave South, and the black section of Bridge Tennis Courts. See the Winter Parking Ban for more information.

Blue Graduate Assistant permitGraduate Assistant

  • Graduate Assistant permits are restricted to University of Maine approved Graduate Assistants through the University of Maine Graduate School. 
  • Application and approval are required before a permit can be purchased, this paperwork can take upwards of a month in some cases. If your paperwork is still being processed and you need a permit please purchase a commuter or resident permit (depending on need) and when the paperwork goes through you can exchange for the updated GA permit at no cost. This listing is updated every Monday. 
  • These permits are valid in designated Blue and Black lots.
  •  Vehicles with Graduate Assistant permits parked in areas designated for other permit categories are subject to enforcement procedures.
  •  If you are a Graduate Assistant living on campus please see us for an additional sticker to allow for Red lot parking privileges. 
  • Permits are sold by the year at a cost of $50 per year. One permit is allowed per person. Permits expire on 8/31 of each year.
  • After-midnight parking for Faculty/Staff permit holders during the Winter Parking Ban limits parking to designated overnight lots: College Ave South, and the black section of Bridge Tennis Courts. Blue faculty and staff permitFaculty/Staff Permits

  • Faculty/Staff permits are restricted to University of Maine Faculty and Staff members.
  • These permits are valid in designated Faculty/Staff parking areas only (all Blue and Black lots).
  •  Vehicles with Faculty/Staff permits parked in areas designated for other permit categories are subject to enforcement procedures.
  • Permits are sold by the year at a cost of $35* per year. One permit is allowed per person. *The University will honor its collective bargaining obligations. Permits expire on 12/31 of each year.
  • After-midnight parking for Faculty/Staff permit holders during the Winter Parking Ban limits parking to designated overnight lots: College Ave South, and the black section of Bridge Tennis Courts. See the Winter Parking Ban for more information. Qualified holders of “Overnight Parking Pass” are entitled to limited exemption to the Winter Parking Ban.

Black Visitor permitVisitor

  • Visitor permits are restricted to eligible visitors to campus.
  • These permits are valid in designated commuter parking areas only (Black lots)
  • Vehicles with visitor permits parked in areas designated for other permit categories are subject to enforcement procedures.
  • Permits are sold by the year at a cost of $50 per year. One permit is allowed per person. Permits expire on 8/31 of each year.
  • After-midnight parking for visitor permits holders during the Winter Parking Ban limits parking to designated overnight parking lots: College Ave South, and the black section of Bridge Tennis Courts. See the Winter Parking Ban for more information.
  • Additional day passes can be obtained at the University of Maine Police department lobby Kiosk or the Parking Office. These are good for 24 hours only and max out at 3 permits per semester.

Green carpool permitCarpool

  • Carpool permits are restricted to eligible faculty/staff who are carpooling together with at least two individuals.
  • An application is required (Click here download the carpool application )
  • These permits are valid in designated Carpool parking spaces that are assigned. When not carpooling, the permit is valid in both BLUE and Black lots the same as a Faculty/Staff permit. Permits expire on 12/31 of each year.
  • Vehicles with carpool permits parked in areas designated for other permit categories are subject to enforcement procedures. One permit is allowed per carpool group. 
  • After-midnight parking for Carpool permit holders during the Winter Parking Ban limits parking to designated overnight parking lots: College Ave South, and the black section of Bridge Tennis Courts. See the Winter Parking Ban for more information.

White Electric Vehicle permitElectric Vehicle

  • Electric Vehicle permits are restricted to eligible faculty/staff, and resident students who own an electric vehicle.
  •  Permits are limited by availability. Contact the Parking Office to secure your space.
  •  Permission and allocation of a designated space is required. 
  •  These permits are valid in designated Electric Vehicle parking spaces that are assigned. When not driving an electric vehicle, the owner must park in their designated lot. Faculty/Staff (blue or black), residents (red)
  • Vehicles with Electric Vehicle permits parked in areas designated for other permit categories are subject to enforcement procedures.
  •  After-midnight parking for Electric Vehicle permit holders during the Winter Parking Ban limits parking to designated overnight parking lots: College Ave South, and the black section of Bridge Tennis Courts. See the Winter Parking Ban for more information.
  • Once approved these permits can be purchased in person at the Parking Office. Permits are sold by the year at a cost of $200 per year. One permit is allowed per person. Permits expire on 12/31 of each year.

Accessible ParkingAccessible parking

  • All students, faculty, staff, and visitors are required to have a valid University of Maine Parking Permit.
  • To park in an accessible space, an individual must also have a state-issued accessible permit/placard or plate.
  • Those 2 permits together, allow parking in any valid University of Maine student, faculty/staff, commuter, or visitor accessible parking space. The State-issued accessible permit/placard should be displayed facing the window from the mirror and the University of Maine permit should be displayed facing the driver so that the numbers can be read by a Parking Enforcement Officer.
  • Failure to have both permits displayed are subject to enforcement procedures.
  • Vehicles with accessible permits parked in areas designated for other permit categories are subject to enforcement procedures. Examples include parking in Service Vehicle Spaces, Carpool and Loading Zones.
  • A temporary 7-day Accessible parking pass can be obtained at the Parking Office. These permits cannot be extended or renewed. The permit gives the individual time to go through the State of Maine if a permit is required past 7 days. Limited on one 7 day pass per calendar year.
  • Once signed the paperwork can be brought to the Bangor BMV and a placard can be issued that same day, mailing or faxing the paperwork could create a week long lead time for receiving the placard by mail.

Orange sticker for Motorcycle or Moped PermitMotorcycle and Moped

  • Motorcycle and Moped stickers are required for all motorcycles and mopeds parked on campus. 
  •  Motorcycles and Mopeds can be parked in designated motorcycle and moped parking throughout campus as well as in any valid standard parking space. 
  • Permits can be obtained for free if a vehicle hang-tag is already owned. Otherwise, they are $30 a piece. Permits expire on 8/31 of each year.

Vendor

Blue vendor permit

  • Vendor permits are restricted to vendors, contractors and other companies working on or for the University of Maine.
  • These permits are valid in designated Faculty/Staff parking areas (all Blue and Black lots), 30-minute Loading Zone, and Service Vehicle designated areas.
  • Vehicles with Faculty/Staff permits parked in areas designated for other permit categories are subject to enforcement procedures.
  • Permits are sold by the year at a cost of $50 per year. All Vendor permits must be purchased in person at the Parking Office. One permit is allowed per person. Permits expire on 12/31 of each year.

Gold Card

Blue gold card permit

  • The Gold Card permits are restricted to Gold Card holders. An application and acceptance from the President’s Office is required before a Gold Card will be issued.
  • Eligibility requirements are: Recipients must be at least 55 years of age and have worked at least 25 years for the University of Maine in a full time capacity (continuous service is not required). If an employee is granted long term disability status after 25 years of full time University employment, he or she becomes eligible for the Gold Card at age 55. An employee who is 55 years of age, who began his or her service at the University of Maine, who served a preponderance of his or her career at the University of Maine, whose position was transferred to the University of Maine System, and who between the two institutions served 25 years or more is eligible for the Gold Card. All former faculty and staff members who are granted emeriti status are also eligible. The Gold Card is not transferable; spouses and partners of deceased retirees are not eligible for the Gold Card.
