Math Lecturers receive RISE grants

Jen Tyne, Paula Drewniany, and Todd Zoroya, Lecturers in the Department of Mathematics and Statistics, are recipients of the RISE Center’s Faculty Course Modification Incentive Grants.  These funds are used to improve the quality of math instruction and to encourage talented students in STEM to experience an aspect of teaching in those fields.  In sections of MAT122, MAT126 and MAT127, undergraduate Maine Learning Assistants (MLAs) are hired for the semester to assist with small group learning, facilitate clicker question discussions, and run evening help sessions.  The interactions of faculty, MLAs and students improves the communication about and understanding of calculus. The active engagement promotes active learning by all involved.
