Statement from OIP on diversity and inclusion

The Office of International Programs (OIP) is committed to bringing students, faculty, and staff from around the world to participate as equals in the pursuit of higher education. We believe that international members of our community contribute in essential and innumerable ways. However, we also recognize the unique challenges and bigotry that international people face in the United States, especially people of color.

We affirm that black lives matter and that we will work to end the systemic racism impacting people of color in the U.S. We, the staff of OIP, commit to engaging in learning opportunities and discussions about racism, bigotry, and the unique needs of our students. We also promise to combat intolerance and injustice and to advocate for international students at every opportunity. As an international Black Bear, be assured that the OIP is here for you to listen, help, and support you in any way that we can. We partner with the Office of Diversity and Inclusion, the Office of Student Life, the Counseling Center, and others to educate and advocate for your success here at the University of Maine and beyond. To read more about UMaine’s position on these issues, please see this statement from the Office of the President.
