WABI profiles 73-year-old higher education student who overcame stroke to earn master’s degree
Jules Hathaway of Veazie, Maine is earning their master’s degree in Student Development in Higher Education this month at the age of 73. Hathaway moved to Maine in the 1980s to pursue graduate work at UMaine, but put their studies on hold to raise three kids with their husband. All of their children graduated with multiple degrees from UMaine, inspiring Jules to return to the university and complete their graduate studies. Jules was on track to graduate from the higher education program in May 2024, but suffered a stroke in 2023 that impacted their mobility and brain function. While it took a while to gain it back, they never lost motivation. Learn more about Hathaway’s story from WABI (CBS Bangor, Channel 5).
