UMaine students featured on Rural Schools Collaborative website
The Rural Schools Collaborative (RSC) shared a story about University of Maine students Lanie Christianson and Matthew Eastman, who were part of the recent pinning ceremony to honor new teacher candidates from the College of Education and Human Development. The RSC works across the U.S. to build sustainable rural communities through a focus on place, teachers and philanthropy. UMaine is home to the collaborative’s New England Rural Education Hub, led by associate professor of educational leadership and director of the School of Educational Leadership, Higher Education and Human Development Catharine Biddle. In its introduction to the story about the UMaine students, the RSC noted: “Caring rural teachers are sorely needed in many communities, so how might we support future rural teachers before they even enter the classroom? RSC’s New England Hub partners at University of Maine have a few great ideas — They recently hosted an inaugural future teacher pinning ceremony to recognize and celebrate the college’s new teacher candidates.”
