Jane Pappas: Social Justice in Higher Education Award
The Social Justice in Higher Education Award is presented to a graduating student in the student development in higher education master’s program who has demonstrated deep and consistent commitment to understanding, analyzing, and advancing both theory and practice related to diversity, inclusivity, and social justice in higher education as evidenced by both academic and co-curricular pursuits and accomplishments during their graduate studies.
The 2020 recipient of this award is Jane Pappas. Jane graduated from UMaine in 2018 with a bachelor’s degree in Women, Gender, and Sexuality studies, and now from UMaine again with their master’s degree! Their background lies in social justice and gender equity. They are passionate about increasing access, opportunity and inclusion for students with marginalized identities at institutions of higher education.
They currently live with their partner, two cats, crested geckos and a whole bunch of plants.
