New York Times op-ed cites hazing study
A New York Times opinion piece written by John Hechinger, a senior editor at Bloomberg News, cited a 2008 University of Maine study on hazing. The study, which was conducted by researchers Elizabeth Allan and Mary Madden, found that three-quarters of fraternity members report they have been hazed, including being forced to drink into unconsciousness, the article states. The study also was cited by News-Press Now. The Missouri-based news organization reported the study found the highest rates of hazing were reported among varsity athletes, followed by members of fraternities and sororities.
