In-person workshop

The first day of any course can cause jitters and excitement for faculty at any point in their career! How do your students feel about the first day of class?  What can you do on the first day to awaken their curiosity for learning and demonstrate your passion for the subject you are teaching?  How can you use this first day to set cultural norms and expectations?  In this workshop we will:

  • explore key elements of an engaging first day for you and your students
  • describe a clear purpose of your course
  • design activities that model expectations and engage students
  • discuss effective ways to introduce the course syllabus
