Summer Orientation for Non-traditional Students

To : Newly accepted non-traditional students (Transfers or First Year students)

Congratulations on your acceptance to the University of Maine. We hope that you have decided to enroll and will be attending UMaine this coming fall.

As a non-traditional student, you will be part of a group of students who have chosen to pursue a UMaine degree while already managing many other life roles. About 10% of UMaine undergraduates are considered non-traditional students. These students include: those who have chosen to begin or return to college several years past their graduation from high school; undergraduates who are 24 years or older; parents or family caretakers; veterans, and more. Commuter and Non-Traditional Student Programs (CNTSP), is here to assist you in becoming a successful and engaged UMaine student.

By now you may have received an invitation to the UMaine 2022 Summer Orientation program for newly admitted students. All new students are invited to attend an informational, on-campus orientation program for their college. The Summer Orientation is designed to assist you as a new student to learn more about the campus resources available to you as well as help you plan your academic career path and goals.

The University of Maine recognizes that as a non-traditional student, you may have more time constraints and some unique needs. In light of this, we have made some special arrangements for your Summer Orientation program. We will provide a detailed schedule outlining the most critical components of your orientation program, such as meeting with your academic faculty, staff, and/or advisors. While you are welcome to participate in the complete orientation program, we understand you may have other obligations to fulfill.
