Free dinner and presentation: “The History and Future of Native Americans at the University of Maine”
Come hear Professors Darren Ranco and John Bear Mitchell from Native American Programs and the Wabanaki Center talk about the history of Native Americans at the University of Maine and the current academic and student programs in place to support Native American students and Tribes in the State of Maine and beyond.
Biographies:
John Bear Mitchell is a citizen of the Penobscot Nation from Indian Island in Maine. He presently serves as the University of Maine System Office Native American Waiver and Educational Program Coordinator, University of Maine’s Wabanaki Center Outreach and Student Development Coordinator, as well as, a Lecturer of Wabanaki Studies and Multicultural Studies at the University of Maine in Orono.
Darren J. Ranco, a citizen of the Penobscot Nation, is an Associate Professor of Anthropology and Chair of Native American Programs at the University of Maine.  He has a Masters of Studies in Environmental Law from Vermont Law School and a PhD in Social Anthropology from Harvard University.
