FREE Dinner and Lecture: The Dark and Light Sides of Religion

Free home-cooked dinner and discussion on a different topic each week. Topics are selected to cut across all different faith and non-faith traditions for a vibrant discussion in which all are welcome to contribute!

Come join us for a dinner and lecture by the esteemed Professor Jordan Labouff from the department of Psychology on the Dark and Light Sides of Religion.

Religion promotes some of the very best of humanity – in fact, every major world religion includes calls for sacrifice on behalf of another, tremendous support of members in need, and the encouragement of the pursuit of peace and love.  We also see, however, that religion has been associated with some of the deepest problems in human history: violence, slavery, discrimination, and bias.  As a social psychologist who studies religiousness, I work to unravel this paradox of religion – trying to understand where, when, and how religiousness promotes the best of humanity,
