South Oxford

Welcome to South Oxford!

Evans Notch, South Oxford
Evans Notch, South Oxford

The Unorganized Territory of South Oxford is a large, sparsely populated and remote area between the towns of Gilead, Bethel, Greenwood, Norway, Waterford, Stoneham, and Stow. The Territory is made up of several villages and two former towns, Mason and Albany, which both disbanded in the early 20th century. Settlers of this area worked primarily in lumber, agriculture, and some mining, all of which continue to this day. The White Mountain National Forest now covers more than half of the Territory’s area, making this a splendid destination for hiking, swimming, and other outdoor activities.
