Welcome to Linneus!

Welcome to Linneus

Linneus was initially organized as a land grant made in 1804 as an endowment for a professorship at Harvard University and took its name from the Swedish botanist Carolus Linnaeus. “The first settler came in 1826.” (McCauley p.99 – The Names of Maine)The town was incorporated in 1836. Linneus is in the heart of Aroostook potato country, and agriculture and logging remain today’s biggest economic drivers.
