Welcome to Benedicta!

Welcome to Benedicta

“Bishop Benedict Fenwick, a Catholic Bishop, bought this township in 1834 with the intention of settling a Catholic colony and starting a Catholic College. Settlers, mostly Irish, started arriving in great numbers in 1838 and thought one building was finished for the college, efforts were redirected to what is not Holy Cross in Worcester, Massachusetts. The Town was named after the Bishop.” (McCauley – The Names of Maine p43)

Farming and logging remain the main industries in Benedicta, along with outdoor recreation.
