Note – we put some scheduled times in here just to give you some ideas. You can pick and choose what you want to do. Be sure to look at when they are open and if there are any COVID restrictions. In fact, it would probably be a good idea to call any that you plan to visit just to be on the safe side.
DownEast Fall Adventures and Treasures Map
For a picturesque tranquility surrounded by the gorgeous reds, oranges, and golds that Maine’s autumn has to offer, follow the trails and loops that will show you the changing fall leaves! This itinerary will take you leaf peeping enjoying all of the famous New England fall colors that will make autumn your favorite season!
Day 1
8:30 am: Breakfast at Flexit Cafe and Bakery

Wake up and start your day off with a perfect morning cup of coffee at Flexit Cafe and Bakery! Filled with goodies and treats, it’s the perfect place to get some fuel before the day starts!
10:00 am: Begin your adventure with Indian Point Preserve
404 Indian Point Rd, Bar Harbor, ME 04609
A short mile trail surrounded by the beautiful preserve, you’ll be mesmerized by the autumn leaf colors. Not only this but end it with a view looking over the downtown Ellsworth area!
12:15 pm: Lunch at 86 This!

Looking for a wrap or burrito to satisfy those lunch cravings come to 86 This! With gluten free options, this is the perfect stop after a morning trail!
Hours: Mon-Fri 11-8pm, Sat 11-4pm
1:15 pm: Branch Lake Public Forest

After fueling up with a burrito or wrap for lunch, head to Branch Lake for an unforgettable view. Surrounded by gorgeous auburn reds, crisp oranges, and vibrant yellows the lake is the perfect place to view the mesmerizing fall foliage ME has to offer.
4:00 pm: Dinner at Finn’s Irish Pub

Enjoy an Irish twist to your meals from crab poppers all the way to the famous Guinness chocolate cake for dessert!
Day 2
10:00 am Start the next day heading to J.M Gerrish Cafe

Little “Ma-and-Pa” type of cafe to grab a delicious meal from! Ranging from a bacon, egg and cheese to having a sweet cappucinno stop at this cafe for the perfect start to your next day adventure!
11:30 am: Grindstone Neck Point

DownEast Maine is famous for the taste of the sea, but it also provides so much more! Grindstone Park provides access to walkways and trails allowing full views of the New England fall colors. End the route at the tip overlooking the Schoodic Peninsula as well as the Winter Harbor Lighthouse!
2:00 pm: The Meadows Takeout

Looking for the perfect twist to your seafood experience? Check out The Meadows Takeout that not only does your typical burger and fries but serves homemade Portuguese food! Enjoy local and homegrown? Another plus to choosing to eat here as their product is exactly so!
3:00 pm: Bartlett Maine Estate Winery and Distillery

After adventuring outdoors all day relax at Bartlett for drinks and fun!
5:00pm: Serendib Indian and Sri Lankan

Enjoy your dinner at one of the only Sri Lankan restaurants in the region! This is a great chance to try some delicious new types of food right in Ellsworth. Fresh Indian and Sri Lankan dishes in a casual setting.
Packing List
The weather in Maine can be unpredictable. Therefore, here are some ideas to be prepared. Wear comfortable clothes and dress in layers, Maine is very casual, so you probably will not find any restaurants that require formal attire.
Spring/Summer/Fall: clothes, comfortable sneakers or hiking shoes for walking, sun hat, sunscreen, sweater or jacket, insect repellent, toiletries, and phone/camera
Winter: clothes (layers), ski pants highly recommended, winter boots, jacket, hats, scarves, gloves, warm socks, toiletries, and phone/camera. Please pack a helmet if you are participating in snowmobiling, skiing, or snowboarding
