Online-Blended MSW Program
Students in the Online-Blended MSW Program complete their required courses online, with two in-person meetings per semester to build community and engage in hands-on activities.
Online-Blended Program
Students admitted to online-blended MSW program complete their coursework primarily online. Students are admitted as a cohort in the Fall semester only. The online-blended MSW program consists of 63 credit hours and is completed in three years. While most coursework in this program is completed asynchronously, required courses include two in-person meetings on Saturdays at the University of Maine campus in Orono each semester and internship courses include a weekly, synchronous seminar on Monday evenings. Saturday meetings provide a valuable opportunity for students to build community with each other and their faculty as well as to engage in learning activities that cannot be completed online and/or asynchronously. Internship seminar meetings further connections between students by offering the opportunity to share experiences with each other and their internship liaison.
Coursework in the MSW program is sequential. Students should plan to take courses in the order listed in their program of study and must complete the generalist course sequence and 400-hour generalist internship prior to beginning their specialization year. Alongside their specialization year coursework, students complete a 500-hour internship at a second organization as part of their program of study. MSW students are eligible for financial aid programs if they enroll in at least 6 credits.
Students in the online blended MSW program complete internships at qualifying organizations geographically convenient to them.
Advanced Standing Online-Blended Program
Students with a BSW from a CSWE-accredited program who meet criteria for advanced standing status can complete the online-blended program in two years. The advanced standing online-blended MSW program consists of 46 credit hours. Advanced standing MSW students are admitted to the program in May of each year and complete three online, 2-credit summer courses that serve as a “bridge” from the final, generalist year of their BSW program to the advanced or specialization year of the MSW program.
