Butler Discusses homelessness with Bangor Daily News

Sandra Butler, director of the School of Social Work at the University of Maine, discussed the issue of homelessness in Bangor with the Bangor Daily News. She says some people dislike seeing homeless people in public because they view their suffering as self-inflicted, unaware of how extrapersonal problems with  affordable housing, health care, domestic abuse and more can place people on the streets. “If you don’t have that kind of understanding, and see it in places you love, like walking along the Penobscot River, there’s a sense that these people shouldn’t be there,” she said.
