Job Summary

Responsible for supporting the Dempsey Center mission, vision, values, and work culture, this clinician will provide counseling, information, referrals and education to people of all ages whose lives are impacted by cancer, including cancer patients/survivors, loved ones, care partners, parents/guardians and bereaved individuals. Clinical experience preferred includes oncology, palliative, care, and/or hospice. Individual and group counseling experience are required along with experience working with youth. In order to help maintain or improve quality of life, the primary clinical focus of the clinician includes fostering coping and adaptation to cancer and its effects. The role also leads cancer and bereavement support groups and skill building workshops. The clinician will also provide education and consultation to professionals and staff regarding the biopsychosocial, environmental, spiritual, and cultural factors affecting cancer care.

Responsibilities and expected outcomes include:

Supports coping and resiliency of Dempsey Center clients through direct service (individual counseling, support groups, programs, workshops and classes

Ensures that clients receive quality bereavement services through direct counseling, supervision of volunteer positions, oversight and development of Legacy & Life program, planning & leading annual remembrances services and ensuring effective tracking of deceased clients and implementation of SOPs

Supports provision of direct service and operations by performing administrative/non-direct service tasks.

This is a 36-40 hour per week position including some evenings and weekends, and an occasional Saturday, reporting to the Psychosocial Services Manager.

Qualifications

Master of Social Work degree required.

Minimum of two years’ experience required.

Clinical experience preferably in oncology, palliative, care, and/or hospice. Individual and group counseling experience are required. Experience working with youth. Licenses and Certification
Valid Maine driver’s license is required.

Maine LCSW or LMSW-CC license required; OSWC strongly preferred
