Ed Tech III — Social Workers encouraged to apply
Ed Tech III
Ellsworth Elementary/Middle School is seeking a dynamic, knowledgeable, paraprofessional who is a collaborative, team player to assist our students in meeting individualized goals and promoting independence through teaching student’s skills and strategies. Flexibility is key for this role, as the tasks may change from day to day contingent upon the needs of the children. This is an excellent opportunity for social workers. The skills needed for an Ed Tech III are the same kinds of skills social workers learn in school. The importance of empowering students, promoting autonomy, and ensuring that students are treated with dignity and respect are critical skills for Ed Techs. Social workers have a solid understanding of the complex interplay among mental health, social emotional well being, family life and education. The Person in Environment view is important for educators to understand and social workers to gain ‘on the ground’ experience. There is a growing need for social workers in schools and this may give a new social worker an advantage in an interview for a school position.
The Ed Tech will work closely with students and classroom teachers to ensure that programs are delivered appropriately, that data is collected consistently and that student needs are met. The candidate needs a versatile skill set and a willingness to proactively look for ways to support the student. Paraprofessional responsibilities and duties include delivering academic and behavioral programs, empowering students through programs designed to enhance their academic and social achievements, working with assistive technology, and monitoring the classroom to minimize distractions and disruptions as needed and appropriate. Paraprofessional skills desired include experience working with students who have disabilities, a working understanding of child development, strong verbal and written communication skills, and experience with behavior and academic data tracking. The ideal candidate is caring, compassionate, dedicated to the students’ success and is an effective student advocate, communicator, collaborator and flexible multi-tasker.
