The June 2020 RiSE Conference was not held due to the unknown social distancing timeline for the COVID-19 pandemic. Our next conference will be held  June 27-29, 2021.

RiSE Summer Conference 2021

Integrating Research and Practice: Evidence-Based Strategies for Building Agency and Ownership in STEM disciplines

Themes for this conference are:

  • Effective strategies of integrating computing in STEM disciplines to enhance student agency and learning.
  • Designing community-based learning experiences to build student agency and ownership.
  • Tools to measure agency and ownership in STEM classrooms.
  • Proven structures and practices to provide access and ownership for all students, especially those from groups underrepresented in STEM.

Schedule at a Glance

Sunday, June 27
3:00 – 6:00 pm: Registration and Check-in
6:00 – 8:00 pm: Dinner and Keynote given by Dr. Alan Schoenfeld, from the University of California, Berkeley

Monday, June 28
7:30-8:30 am: Breakfast 
8:30 am – 4:30 pm: Talks and Workshops
4:30 pm – 6:00 pm: Poster session with hors d’oeuvres

Tuesday, June 29
7:30 am – 8:30 am: Breakfast
8:30 am – 3:00 pm: Talks and Workshops

Conference Details

Updated as information becomes available:

Cost of the conference will be $175. This includes two nights of lodging, Sunday evening banquet as well as all meals Monday, and breakfast and lunch on Tuesday.

Stipends for qualified registrants (PK–12 STEM classroom teachers) who attend the entire conference will be sent out after the conference is completed. Please contact risecenter@maine.edu with questions.
