Edward Derrick

As a Research Development Specialist, Ed Derrick is available to help shepherd proposals from ideation to success, including finding the best articulation of the match between the interests of faculty members and potential sponsors.  Ed joined the Office of Research Development in March 2021.  He spent nearly 20 years at the American Association for the Advancement of Science, where he ran a programmatic peer review service and directed a soft-money center of programs at the interface of science, policy, and societal interest, so he has seen a lot of proposals and programs across the spectrum of research, scholarly and creative work.  He holds a PhD from the University of Texas at Austin and Bachelor of Science from MIT, both in physics.  If you’re interested in Derrick’s Theorem, well, that was his uncle; if you are interested in the identification of Q-fever, that was his grandfather.  His own work has covered science policy, research management, string theory and biophysics at different times.
