The University of Maine is renowned for the breadth and depth of its faculty in sustainability-related research, scholarship, and stakeholder engagement. Over 30% of UMaine faculty teach about and conduct research on the intersecting human and ecosystem dimensions of sustainability, which is one of the highest concentrations of expertise of any U.S. research university.

UMaine’s expertise in Orono is combined with expertise at partnering institutions of higher education throughout Maine to address issues from the state’s largest urban area to its most remote forested regions. Many of the faculty involved in these research programs are leaders in their own fields. All are committed to working towards integration and interdisciplinarity in our efforts to transform our capacity for undertaking sustainability science.

Postdoctoral fellows and graduate students are partners in this process. As integral members of the research team, students not only conduct research, but gain a deeper understanding of what it takes for teams to work effectively.
