Biography

My name is Kelsey Davis and I am an Aquaculture and Aquatic Resources Masters student in the Hamlin Lab. I also work full time for the Maine Center for Research in STEM Education (The RiSE Center) here on campus as the department’s STEM Education Research Associate. I work to design, implement, and evaluate grant funded research projects with my colleagues under the RiSE administrative team. After graduating from the University of Maine Marine Science program as an undergraduate, I decided to pursue a Masters Degree that focuses on the integration of science and citizens. My research in the Betta Lab aims to establish a system of mentorship to provide meaningful and authentic research to undergraduate students in order to allow them to better connect to both their work and their communities. I analyze these effects through a case study of undergraduates investigating the effects of nitrate on Betta splendens.
