International Scholarships

Priority Deadlines:

Students need to have a complete undergraduate application on file in order to be considered for all UMaine international scholarships. All students who apply (First Year & Transfer) are considered for merit scholarships if completed before these deadlines:

  • For Spring admission – by November 1 of the previous year
  • For Fall admission – by February 1 of the same year

Students applying after these deadlines will be considered for scholarships as funds are available.

International Presidential Scholarship

The University of Maine offers a limited number of undergraduate International Presidential Scholarships in recognition of outstanding academic performance valued up to US$ 20,000 per academic year.

Maine Global Partner Scholarship

High achieving international students graduating from Maine high schools are considered for this scholarship valued up to US$12,000 per academic year.

International Flagship Scholarship

All first-year and transfer international undergraduate applicants to the University of Maine are considered for this international scholarship valued up to US$ 10,000 per academic year.

International Dean’s Scholarship

All first-year and transfer international undergraduate applicants to the University of Maine are considered for this international scholarship valued up to US$ 5,000 per academic year.

IEI Bridge Scholarship

All international students enrolled in the Bridge program of the Intensive English Institute are eligible for this international scholarship valued up to US$4,000 per academic year.

Graduate Student Scholarships

International graduate applicants are considered for graduate funding through graduate assistantships, fellowships and scholarships.

Karen Boucias International Scholarship Fund

This fund was established at the University of Maine Foundation in 2018 in honor of Ms. Karen Boucias, who directed the Office of International Programs at the University of Maine for seventeen years. The raised funds provide financial support for undergraduate international students who demonstrate academic achievement.

Marisue and John Pickering Scholarship

This endowed scholarship was established at the University of Maine in 1993 with gifts from Marisue and John Pickering.  John was an educator who taught at and worked with students at the elementary school through university levels, and Marisue is a University of Maine Professor Emerita (Communication Sciences and Disorders).  It supports financial assistance to international students attending UMaine from Southeastern Europe.

UMaine ScholarshipUniverse Scholarship Resource 

This resource is one that is partnered with UMaine. The scholarships that are listed on ScholarshipUniverse are not granted by UMaine, but rather third party funders. To be considered for any of these scholarships it is up to the student to take the time to apply to the scholarships they are eligible for.

School of Forest Resources Scholarships

Each year, the School of Forest Resources awards hundreds of thousands of dollars in scholarships to new and continuing students. All students are eligible to apply, with different awards based on a number of criteria, including academic achievement and financial need. Awards usually range from $350 to $7,000.

UMaine Pulp and Paper Foundation

This scholarship fund is open to all engineering and forestry first-year and upper-class students who are seeking challenging and rewarding careers in the pulp and paper and supplier industries. Students awarded first-year scholarships are typically in the top 15% of their high school class, have a combined SAT score of 1100+, are the recipients of academic honors, participate in leadership and extracurricular activities, and possess excellent verbal and written communication skills.  These scholarships are valued at $8,500 per year and can be combined with UMaine’s international merit scholarships listed above. The application deadline for first-year scholarships is December 31st.
