Give to International Programs

The Office of International Programs welcomes gifts from alumni and other members of the community who wish to support international students, study abroad students,  and events and programs that help to create a diverse and inclusive environment for our campus and the surrounding communities. Our giving page is our.umaine.edu/internationalprograms.  Please consider giving to one of the following funds:

Karen Boucias International Scholarship Fund

This endowed fund was established at the University of Maine Foundation in 2018, in honor of Ms. Karen Boucias, who directed for seventeen years the University of Maine Office of International Programs. The fund will be used to provide financial support for undergraduate international students who demonstrate academic achievement.

Marisue and John Pickering Scholarship

This endowed scholarship was established at the University of Maine in 1993 with gifts from Marisue and John Pickering.  John was an educator who taught at and worked with students at the elementary school through university levels, and Marisue is a University of Maine Professor Emerita (Communication Sciences and Disorders).  It supports financial assistance to international students attending UMaine from Southeastern Europe.

Intensive English Institute Fund

This fund was established in 2023 by friends of University of Maine Office of International Programs to provide financial support to students in the Intensive English Institute

Office of International Programs Fund

Donations to this account will be used for the immediate support of international students at the University of Maine.  At the discretion of the Director of OIP, these funds may be used to cover the cost of students’ emergency medical needs, short term need-based scholarships and other programs that will enhance the well-being of international students on our campus.

Study Abroad Scholarship Fund

Donations to this account will be used for the immediate support of UMaine students studying abroad.  At the discretion of the Director of OIP, these funds will be used to cover students’ unexpected emergency expenses, need-based study abroad scholarships and other programs in support of UMaine’s Study Abroad program.

UMaine International Programming Fund

This endowed fund was created in 2014 by an alumnus in honor of the 10th annual International Dance Festival.  When our goal of $10,000 is reached, funds generated by this account will be used to continue providing quality international programming such as Culturefest and the International Dance Festival.

Employer Matching Gifts

Many companies have employer matching gift programs. It is an easy way to increase your giving to the University of Maine Foundation. Use the convenient search function at the bottom of our giving form to see if your company participates when you make your gift.

How it works: Typically the employee makes a gift to the University of Maine Foundation and initiates the process put in place by their employer to have the gift matched. The Foundation is generally asked to verify the gift and then the match is processed. It is easy to do, if you have any questions please contact Foundation staff to assist at 1.800.982.8503 or umainefoundation@maine.edu.
