Using Backwards Design (Wiggins and McTighe, 1998) in your course provides a clear roadmap for your students to understand what will be expected of them in the course, how learning will be measured and what opportunities to learn will be provided.  As faculty, it also provides clear organization for your course and ensures that your student learning outcomes are being achieved.
