Dr. Jennifer Perry receives grant from Maine Dept. of Agriculture, Conservation and Forestry

Dr. Jennifer Perry received $27,735 to conduct research to optimize aqueous washing procedures for wild blueberries growers and processors to ensure improved food safety. This was one of five projects funded by the Agricultural Development Grant Program; the selections were announced by Commissioner Whitcomb Ag Day at the Maine Legislature on April 12. The projects address critical needs in the agricultural industry, Washington County in particular, for development of new markets and processing techniques for wild blueberries and organic poultry processing.

Commissioner Walt Whitcomb highlighted Maine’s efforts to support farmers and producers through enhanced marketing, technical support and promotion of Maine agriculture locally, nationally and internationally. The five selected projects were chosen by a review committee from 35 qualified proposals.  For more information: http://www.maine.gov/dacf/about/news/news.shtml?id=794133
