Jacob Mulligan: Aspiring teacher and coach gains leadership experience at UMaine

Jacob Mulligan is a junior majoring in kinesiology and physical education (KPE) with a concentration in teaching and coaching in the University of Maine College of Education and Human Development. Despite being a full-time student, he still finds time to volunteer with his old high school football team, working with defensive backs and wide receivers and helping the coaching staff break down film. He also helps coach the Noble wrestling team. In addition, he’s gained valuable experience as a substitute teacher at schools in North Berwick and nearby Dover, New Hampshire.

UMaine now the hub for Rural Schools Collaborative in New England

A new partnership between the University of Maine and the Rural Schools Collaborative will seek to strengthen the K–12 education workforce across six New England states and provide other opportunities to raise the profile of rural schools and teachers in the region.

UMaine partners with EDC, Mount Washington Observatory and others on NSF-funded project to promote data science education

The University of Maine is partnering with the Education Development Center (EDC) in Waltham, Massachusetts, Mount Washington Observatory (MWO) in North Conway, New Hampshire, and additional partners to help eighth-grade students in rural Maine and New Hampshire learn scientific data analysis and modeling skills. The new WeatherX project is funded by a three-year, $1.19 million grant from the National Science Foundation.
