New Webster Park sculpture from UMaine faculty highlighted in BDN
The Bangor Daily News reported on a new sculpture for Webster Park in Orono developed by University of Maine faculty, one staff member and a recent graduate to get more people interested in math. SunRule, according to the BDN, “is interactive and allows users to visualize multiplication and division using the rays of the sun.” Justin Dimmel, an assistant professor of mathematics education and instructional technology, and Eric Pandiscio, an associate professor of mathematics education, invented the sculpture. The group behind it also includes Greg Ondo, an associate professor of art; Sam Hoey, a sculpture studio technician; and Emma Reedman, a recent graduate.
