Rooks-Ellis, Howorth talk about success of telehealth for rural families of children with autism
WABI talked with Deborah Rooks-Ellis and Sarah Howorth about their findings that telehealth technology may provide better and more equitable access to early intervention services for children diagnosed with Autism Spectrum Disorder who live in rural areas. “This started with 10 families,” said Rooks-Ellis, assistant professor of special education. “But then when the pandemic hit, they were able to do it statewide across multiple families.” Howorth said, “One woman said it was life-changing and it wasn’t a short-term solution but was a life solution for their family.” Rooks-Ellis and Howorth also shared their findings with WVII.
