Jacobs honored for leadership on development of Maine Educational Trip Leader Permit program
University of Maine Senior Lecturer in Outdoor Leadership Lauren Jacobs was recognized by the Maine Department of Inland Fisheries and Wildlife for her service as chair of the state’s Educational Trip Leader Advisory Committee. The Maine Legislature established the Educational Trip Leader Permit program in 2020. The permit allows employees of educational institutions to lead trips that would otherwise require a registered Maine Guide, including back country, overnight and paddling outings. Jacobs served on a legislative task force that helped come up with the criteria and application procedures for the program before being named the advisory committee’s first-ever chair overseeing implementation.
