Student Award is presented to a student in the University of Maine’s Doctor of Education (Ed.D.) program in educational leadership who has demonstrated a deep dedication to being a steward in the field of education. The recipient understands the importance of connecting theory to practice, addresses inequities through their problem of practice and remains dedicated to their graduate studies to improve outcomes for the communities they serve.
Statement from the Educational Leadership faculty:
Ashley Reynolds is the 2023 recipient of the Outstanding Scholarly-Practitioner in Educational Leadership Ed.D. Student Award from the Beacon Black Bear cohort. Ashley serves as principal of the PK-5 Capt. Albert Stevens School in Belfast, Maine, part of the RSU 71 school district (Belfast, Morrill, Searsmont, Swanville). As an Ed.D. candidate in Educational Leadership, Ashley’s problem of practice explores how restorative mindsets can be used to develop asset-based approaches to education, particularly the importance of shifting disciplinary practices away from exclusion and toward restorative justice. As a leader in her community, Ashley can be found anywhere from the halls of her elementary school to partnering with the local YMCA. Ashley’s work and efforts are exemplary, and the University of Maine Educational Leadership program is proud to support her ongoing development as a scholarly practitioner.
