The recipient understands the importance of connecting theory to practice, addresses inequities through their problem of practice and remains dedicated to their graduate studies to improve outcomes for the communities they serve.
Statement from the Educational Leadership faculty:
Mia Morrison is the 2021 recipient of this award. Mia serves as a lecturer in the collaborative Instructional Technology program at the University of Maine. Her problem of practice explores the experiences of teachers as they navigated the dynamic, ever-shifting conditions brought on by COVID-19 to identify how elements of technology interact with teacher leadership development to consider effective instruction, collegial interactions, recognition, and opportunity. As a faculty member at UMaine she regularly teaches Instructional Technology classes and presents research that help make her program a leader in the state and the region. Mia goes above and beyond the requirements of the program and directly applies her work as a scholarly-practitioner.
