Student Award is presented to a student in the University of Maine’s Doctor of Education (Ed.D.) program in educational leadership who has demonstrated a deep dedication to being a steward in the field of education. The recipient understands the importance of connecting theory to practice, addresses inequities through their problem of practice and remains dedicated to their graduate studies to improve outcomes for the communities they serve.

Katie Truesdale is an Ed.D. candidate in the Black Bear Beacon class, and head of the Blue Hill Harbor School. Katie has a unique talent for writing in a way that is both accessible and scholarly, and produces beautifully written work for her classes that deeply explore the content, including the ways in which her life and professional experiences have shaped her scholarly interests. She brings enthusiasm and generosity to every class that she attends, and is pursuing her problem of practice with rigor and excitement.
