Cross country skiers and snowshoers are invited to hit the trails Sunday, Feb. 21 for the annual Black Bear XC ski and snowshoe races on the University of Maine Trails.

The event is sponsored by UMaine Campus Recreation, the Maine Bound Adventure Center and the College of Education and Human Development’s Outdoor Leadership program, part of the School of Kinesiology, Physical Education and Athletic Training.

Racers can participate in a 5K classic ski at 1 p.m., a 5K or 10K skate ski at 1:15 p.m., or a 2K snowshoe contest at 2:30 p.m. Preregistration is required; a link is available on the UMaine Outdoor Leadership social media pages (Facebook or Instagram).

The races are free with a suggested $10 donation to benefit the Black Bear Exchange. Equipment is available at no charge. A variety of participation prizes will be awarded.

The event is presented with generous support from the Alton ’38 and Adelaide Hamm Campus Activity Fund.
