Geology Club
The University of Maine Geology Club (originally the Rock and Hammer Club, founded in 1947) is an undergraduate run organization that plans a wide variety of activities associated with geology. Past activities include: local hiking and camping trips, a week long trip to the Colorado Plateau, as well as some non-geology related events such as bowling nights and a Department chili cookoff. The club is primarily for Earth and Climate Sciences undergraduate students, but anyone interested in Geology is welcome to join. Club Archives
In recent years, the Geology Club has been on numerous fun and exciting adventures, both locally and afar. Most recently we went on a week-long trip to the Colorado Plateau. The trip had 10 students and three faculty members. While out there, the club hiked the Grand Canyon, explored several state and National Parks, including Petrified Forest National Park, and learned about the geology of the American Southwest. The year before that we also took a week-long road trip down to North Carolina. On the way, the Club did some hiking, lots of camping, went to several museums, and even got to rock climb. A smaller trip earlier in the year took the Club to Grand Manan Island, Canada to explore the geology there.
How to Join
Anybody is welcome to join the Club, Earth and Climate Sciences undergraduate or not. The Geology Club is a great place to learn about the Earth around us outside of the classroom, as well as the perfect opportunity to visit some fun and exciting places!
