Throughout the week of August 21st, CITL and other UMaine partners will offer multiple workshops to prepare you for teaching at UMaine.

These workshops compliment the New Faculty Orientation events held on Wednesday and Thursday.

Attendance is not required, but we do request that you register for any workshops you plan to join.

Tour Descriptions

Join us for a walking tour the UMaine campus! The tour will start and finish at Wells Commons. While at Wells – stop in and get your photo taken!

Workshop Descriptions

Most of these workshops are designed to be hands-on and have you working in your UMS account.  If possible, please bring a laptop computer.

Course Design Essentials: We will explore course syllabi, learning outcomes, assessment techniques and alignment. You will also have a chance to plan and discuss your first five minutes of class.

Introduction to Blackboard: A brief overview of UMaine’s learning management system, including access, layout of your class, common features, and basic functions.

MaineStreet Essentials: Learn the basics of FERPA to protect student data, and how to navigate MaineStreet with a focus on teaching related functions such as working with class rosters, grading and class search.

Using Video in the Classroom: An introduction to UMaine’s video platform, Kaltura. We will also discuss using video in your teaching, and an overview of the integrated Blackboard features.

Classrooms of UMaine: An overview of the different teaching environments and modalities (e.g., active-learning, video-conferencing) available at UMaine.

Hackerspace Demo: Our new Hackerspace is available to faculty for class work, projects and tours. Explore the features of the Hackerspace and learn more about how faculty are using this innovative hands-on workspace in their classes.

Fogler Library Orientation:  Come have an introduction to the information resources available to you and your students through Fogler Library.
