Accessing “under construction” websites will soon require VPN
When new websites are first created, they are typically given an address that begins with “new.umaine.” The site is hidden from search engines to ensure it is not prematurely indexed, and a “restricted access” feature may be turned on to restrict access so only your content editor logins may view the website.
In most cases these under construction websites are made available at their new.umaine addresses without requiring a WordPress login to view. This allows other campus stakeholders the ability to review the website while it is under construction. We will soon be tightening security of these websites to ensure that only UMS account holders will be able to view these websites when not visiting from the campus network. Stakeholders who need to view the website under development from off-campus will be required to use a campus VPN connection.
