Stow
Welcome to Stow!
Stow was settled in 1770 and incorporated as a town in 1833 on land that was once home to the Pequawket Native American community. The town narrowly hugs the New Hampshire border and follows the flow of the Cold River. The town was once busy with the logging industry, but is now most known as an access point to the White Mountain National Forest.

- This 8 mile round-trip trail to the summit of Speckled Mountain is a real treat! In addition to the fabulous views from the peak, the trail passes the Bickford Slides waterfalls along the way.

- This moderate, 4 mile loop hike offers great views along the way and from the Blueberry Mountain peak, as well as a stop for a swim at Rattlesnake Pool on the way!
- Deer Hill Mineral Collecting Area Shell Pond Rd, Stow, ME 04037
- For a unique summertime activity, try your luck prospecting at this public mineral site! Access to the site is by a hike of less than 1 mile, and the required permit is free and available at the trailhead.
- Rattlesnake Flume & Pool Shell Pond Rd, Stow, ME 04037
- This crystal-clear, icy-cold swimming hole and beautiful flume are accessible by a 2.1 mile round-trip hike from the popular Stone House Trail.
- The Brickett Place Brickett Pl, Stow, ME 04037
- This 1830’s settler home is the oldest standing structure in the area, and has been preserved as an educational site. Open weekends during the summer months.
